What is the Building Code Really?

What is the Building Code Really?

What is the Building Code Really?

The first and most important point that everyone needs to understand before starting any building work is that the Building Code is the BARE MINIMUM STANDARD.  It’s as simple as that.  It’s not an elevated level to reach.  The acceptable solutions associated with the building code are the absolute minimum that you need to achieve to protect your home.  Furthermore, from our experience in some cases, in some locations and some levels of exposure, even this is not enough!

To help put this into context, if you were asked to build a boat for your family to take them over to the other side of the world, would you build your boat to the absolute minimum requirements of sea-worthiness?  Or would you take extra precautions to ensure that your boat was strong enough and secure enough to last the distance and all foreseeable circumstances?

This is something you should be thinking about when considering your next home or commercial property.  Are you building to the bare minimum requirements?

Or are you building for the long-term future?
