The Mews Reclad & Modernisation
We were approached by leading aged-care provider, Metlifecare, for the redesign of 12 residential apartments spread across four buildings. The 12 apartments had a dated and failing façade cladding system, along with poor detailing between building elements which created high-risk junctions across the buildings.
Design work entailed a complete redesign of the cladding systems and the interface of building elements to remove the high-risk junctions. New 9mm RAB board, cavity cladding systems, robust flashing designs and all new roofing and exterior water management systems were introduced in the design to ensure long-term performance.
The aesthetics also had a shake-up with the design team opting for stable and durable 18mm fibre cement bevel back weatherboards, and durable Aerated Concrete Cladding panels with the industry leading Sto Armat plaster system acting as the breathable waterproofing cladding over the AAC panels.
Working closely with the contractor, client and council, Creative Space maintained a consistent presence during construction which was spread across four separate stages and spanned nearly three years. The result is a project that has been well delivered from a design that required in-depth consideration, and will be asset to the village for years to come.
