Located on a spectacular site near the top of Minden Hill, a contemporary new residence has been designed for a busy Tauranga family. Encompassing sweeping views across the Bay of Plenty, this new family home connects with its surroundings whilst incorporating an effective layout that links the family together whilst also providing privacy.

The client brief required maximisation of living spaces to maintain a strong family bond, whilst a children’s bedroom and master bedroom-wing flank the main central living spaces. It’s all about ease of living, which is exemplified with large open plan areas and seamless flow to the outdoor living spaces.  Design consideration needed to be given to the structural integrity of the house, with Insulated Concrete Form being specified to create a thermally efficient home whilst providing a superior building material capable of withstanding strong south west winds on the exposed site.

As well as making visual and spatial connections a feature within the building, connection to the site was equally important for the clients who have an affinity with the land.  To achieve this, vertical and horizontal timber cladding has been specified coupled with large glazed joinery units to the north.  Additionally, feature stone walls enable zones to be created within the building and visually helps to anchor the building to the site.

Overall this proposed house will be a stunning addition to the landscape and will be the building in which family memories are created.
